Shangri-La is a staple in the Detroit area for authentic Chinese food. They have a plentiful menu and offer many dishes that real Chinese people eat. The food is good taste and freshness. This place is also well known for their Dim Sum. For many years, the dimsum was the best in the area. On Saturday mornings, the selection is rather large. They come around in stainless steam carts and can show you the selection. They also offer dimsum during the week for lunch and late in the evening past 10pm. The past 10pm dim sum seems to targeted to Chinese restaurant workers in the area once they get off work! This is a reliable authentic Chinese place that will not let you down.

This is the best dim sum in Michigan and it's better than all but one or two restaurants in the SF Bay Area. I think May Wah Inn in Windsor is the closest place that can beat it, and May Wah is a world-class contender.Highlights: scallop dumpling, shrimp corn cake, shrimp ball, salt baked shrimp, salt baked squidExcellent: shrimp dumpling, shrimp in tofu skin, chicken bun, quailGreat: chinese broccoli in oyster sauce, curry baby octopus, pan-fried green onion dumpling, sticky rice in leafDishes come rapid fire, tea is always refilled and there are several options, service is good and better for regulars JUST THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. Another great thing is they keep adding new dishes to the dim sum menu. The chili oil is really good on all the fried stuff.Dinner is also very well executed although they have a huge menu and try to please everyone so know what to order. Lobster w/ ginger green onion, peking duck w/ cashew and vegetable second course, stick to the classics don't order the Americanized nonsense. One of the top 10 restaurants in metro Detroit for sure.
